Frequently asked questions
Why doesn’t Mothersense® include iron?
Iron can interfere with absorption of other key minerals and often causes nausea or constipation. Instead of guessing what you need, we leave it out, so your provider can tailor your dose based on labs and your personal needs.
Will this make me feel sick or nauseous?
We formulated Mothersense® Prenatal+ with comfort in mind. ✓ Gentle mineral forms ✓ No iron in the base formula ✓ No artificial dyes or fillers The result? Nutrients that support you, without the stomach aches.
Can I take this if I have the MTHFR gene mutation?
Yes. Mothersense® uses methylated folate, an active form your body can absorb immediately. It avoids the conversion issues for those with MTHFR that occurs with folic acid (the synthetic form) used in most prenatals.
When should I start taking Mothersense® Prenatal+?
Start at least 3 months before trying to conceive to support fertility and early development. Already pregnant or postpartum? Start now, your body and baby still benefit.
What if I already take another prenatal?
Take a closer look at your current one: • Does it have methylated folate? • Enough choline for baby’s brain? • Gut-friendly minerals? • Fewer unnecessary fillers? Most don’t, and that’s why we made Mothersense®. We’re happy to help you compare.
Is it safe to take with other supplements or medications?
Mothersense® is safe for most, but always check with your provider, especially if you're taking prescription medications or managing conditions like thyroid, diabetes, or mental health.
What makes Mothersense® different from other prenatals?
Most prenatals check boxes. We raised the bar. ✓ Methylated nutrients ✓ Therapeutic choline ✓ Bioavailable minerals ✓ No fluff Built with clinicians. Created by a mom who’s lived the gaps.
Are the nutrient amounts in Mothersense® Prenatal+ pregnancy-safe?
Yes. Every ingredient is thoughtfully dosed using clinical research, not outdated Daily Values. You’ll find effective, evidence-backed amounts designed to nourish both you and your baby, without overwhelming your system.
Are the pills in Mothersense® Prenatal+ large or hard to swallow?
Not at all. We split the full dose across 7 small capsules in one sachet, so they’re easier to take, gentler on your stomach, and less stressful than giant tablets or messy powders.
Does Mothersense® Prenatal+ contain any common allergens?
Mothersense® Prenatal+ is free from most major allergens including dairy, gluten/wheat, eggs, shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts. However, it does contain ingredients derived from fish (due to the omega-3s) and may contain soy. If you have a known allergy to fish or soy, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider before use.
We also avoid artificial dyes, sweeteners, preservatives, and unnecessary fillers because clean, thoughtful supplementation is at the heart of everything we do.
Why do some nutrients in Mothersense® Prenatal+ exceed the Daily Values?
Because Daily Values are minimums, not optimal levels for pregnancy. Our formula includes higher, research-supported doses of key nutrients like choline, methylated B12, and magnesium to truly support fetal development, energy, and recovery.
What nutrients should a prenatal contain—and how much is enough?
A quality prenatal should contain the right nutrients, in the right forms, and in the right amounts to support both mom and baby through pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
Here’s what to look for—and why Mothersense® includes them:
Methylated Folate
This is not the same as folic acid. We use 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, the active form your body can absorb and use immediately—especially critical if you have the MTHFR gene variant.
✅ Supports neural tube development and methylation
Choline
Most prenatals don’t include nearly enough—if any. Choline is essential for baby’s brain development and long-term cognitive health.
✅ Ours includes both citicoline and phosphatidylcholine for maximum support
Active B Vitamins
B12 (methylcobalamin)
B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate)
B2 (riboflavin-5-phosphate)
B1 (thiamine + benfotiamine)
B5 (calcium pantothenate)
These support energy, mood, methylation, and baby’s neurological development.
✅ We use active, methylated, and highly bioavailable forms
Omega-3s (DHA + EPA)
Crucial for baby’s brain, eyes, and nervous system
✅ Our formula includes both DHA and EPA, which many prenatals miss
Chelated Minerals
Magnesium, Zinc, Calcium, Selenium Chelated minerals are better absorbed and easier on the stomach.
✅ We use bisglycinate and malate forms for improved absorption and reduced GI issues
Antioxidants & Cell Support
CoQ10, Vitamin C, Vitamin E
These protect cells, support energy, and promote tissue healing.
✅ Especially beneficial for women TTC or recovering postpartum
Vitamin D
Supports immunity, mood, and fetal bone development.
✅ We use D3 (cholecalciferol), the most effective form
Other Supportive Nutrients
Iodine, Biotin, Molybdenum, Chromium, Boron, Vanadium, Potassium
✅ All carefully dosed for optimal function without overload
Does it contain enough calcium and vitamin D?
Yes—and here’s how we approached both thoughtfully and safely.
Calcium
Mothersense® includes 200 mg of Calcium Malate, a form known for its high absorption, excellent tolerability, and compatibility with the body’s natural metabolism. Unlike calcium carbonate (which can cause gas and constipation) or calcium citrate (which often requires higher doses to be effective), calcium malate is gentle on digestion and efficiently utilized—an ideal choice during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester when calcium needs rise but tolerance may decline.
Vitamin D
The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for pregnant women, as defined by the National Institute of Health and Institute of Medicine, is 600 IU per day. Mothersense provides 800 IU (20 mcg) of vitamin D3—more than the minimum, but intentionally lower than high-dose formulas that may provide 2,000–4,000 IU daily by default.
We chose 800 IU because it supports baseline vitamin D levels while still leaving room for personalization. If additional supplementation is needed, it can be easily added based on lab values and your provider’s guidance—through separate D3 drops or capsules. This approach offers safe daily support without assuming one-size-fits-all dosing.
Does Mothersense® include enough iodine to support fetal brain development?
Yes—Mothersense® Prenatal+ includes 150 mcg of iodine, the amount recommended by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and American Thyroid Association for pregnant women.
Iodine is critical for fetal brain development, especially in the first and second trimesters when your baby’s brain and nervous system are forming. It supports the production of thyroid hormones, which play a key role in neurodevelopment, metabolism, and growth.
Even mild iodine deficiency in pregnancy can impact cognitive outcomes for the baby later in life—which is why having the right amount in your prenatal is so important.
Why 150 mcg is the sweet spot:
It aligns with the daily requirement for pregnancy
It supports both mom’s thyroid health and baby’s brain development
It’s safely dosed to allow for additional iodine from food (like dairy, fish, and iodized salt) without going over the tolerable upper limit
Why is choline important in a prenatal—and does Mothersense® include enough?
Yes—and it’s one of the things that truly sets Mothersense® Prenatal+ apart.
Choline is essential for your baby’s brain development, memory, and lifelong cognitive function. It also supports placental health, helps reduce the risk of neural tube defects, and plays a key role in methylation, which affects everything from gene expression to detox.
Yet, most prenatals either don’t include choline at all—or only include a small fraction of what’s needed.
Mothersense® includes:
250 mg of Choline (as citicoline—a highly bioavailable, brain-targeted form)
700 mg of Phosphatidylcholine (for added neural + liver support)
That’s more choline than most prenatals on the market, and it's delivered in forms your body can actually use.
Does it include DHA or other omega-3s?
Yes—Mothersense® Prenatal+ includes a full-spectrum Omega-3 complex with both DHA and EPA.
Each daily packet delivers:
• 200 mg DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid)
• 190 mg EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid)
These essential fatty acids are crucial for your baby’s brain, eyes, and nervous system development, especially in the third trimester when fetal brain growth accelerates.
Why both DHA and EPA matter:
• DHA supports healthy brain and eye development
• EPA helps reduce inflammation, supports maternal mood, and enhances DHA absorption
Many prenatals only include DHA—or leave omega-3s out entirely, expecting women to supplement separately. We believe in providing comprehensive support in one place.
