Every nutrient, every dose, every why.
A complete, transparent breakdown of every ingredient in Mothersense™ Prenatal+, exactly as it appears on our supplement facts panel.
The formula at a glance
Mothersense™ Prenatal+ is a clinician-formulated prenatal supplement delivered as one daily packet containing three components: a multivitamin and mineral blend (3 tablets), an omega-3 complex (2 softgels), and a phosphatidylcholine complex (2 softgels).
The formula provides 950mg of total choline (250mg as citicoline, 700mg as phosphatidylcholine), 400mcg of methylated folate (5-MTHF), 390mg of full-spectrum omega-3s (200mg DHA + 190mg EPA), 100mg of CoQ10, an active B-complex, and a comprehensive mineral blend in chelated and malate forms.
Iron is intentionally excluded. The formula is gluten-free and dairy-free. Allergen statement: contains soy. Manufactured in the United States in an FDA-registered, cGMP-certified facility.
Folate is essential for neural tube formation, DNA synthesis, and red blood cell production. Mothersense uses 5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid (5-MTHF) — the biologically active form your body uses directly, without conversion.
This matters because an estimated 40–60% of the population carries variants in the MTHFR gene that reduce the body's ability to convert synthetic folic acid into its usable form. 5-MTHF bypasses this conversion entirely, making it suitable for everyone regardless of genetic variation.
Choline is critical for fetal brain development, neural tube formation, and placental function. The American Medical Association recognized it as essential for prenatal health in 2017. Yet most prenatals include little to none — often less than 50mg per dose.
Mothersense includes 950mg of total choline from two complementary forms:
Citicoline (250mg) — A form of choline that crosses the blood-brain barrier efficiently and supports cognitive function and neural development.
Phosphatidylcholine (700mg total, delivered in two softgels) — The form most readily incorporated into cell membranes; critical for fetal cell development and maternal liver function.
Over 90% of pregnant women don't get enough choline from diet alone, making supplementation particularly important.
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is the primary omega-3 fatty acid in the fetal brain and retina. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) plays a supporting role in inflammation regulation and cardiovascular health for the mother.
Mothersense uses full-spectrum omega-3s with both DHA and EPA, delivered in two softgels. Many prenatals include only DHA or rely on plant-based ALA, which converts inefficiently in the body.
CoQ10 is a compound the body produces naturally to support cellular energy production in the mitochondria. Research suggests it may play a role in egg quality and ovarian function, particularly important for those trying to conceive.
CoQ10 levels naturally decline with age, which is why it's often recommended as part of fertility nutrition. Mothersense includes 100mg, a dose informed by current fertility research.
Vitamin D supports bone development, immune function, and calcium absorption. Mothersense uses cholecalciferol (D3) — the form your body produces naturally from sunlight, and more bioavailable than D2 (ergocalciferol).
Vitamin D deficiency is widespread — particularly in northern climates and among those who spend most time indoors — making supplementation important during pregnancy.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant that supports immune function, collagen formation, and iron absorption from food. It's also necessary for the body to convert and use other nutrients efficiently.
At 500mg, Mothersense provides more than four times the standard daily value, supporting elevated needs during pregnancy and antioxidant protection for both mother and baby.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cells from oxidative stress and supports skin and immune health. It works synergistically with vitamin C to neutralize free radicals throughout the body.
B vitamins work together to support energy metabolism, nervous system function, and red blood cell production. Mothersense uses active and food-form B vitamins selected for bioavailability — including riboflavin 5′-phosphate (the active form of B2), benfotiamine (a fat-soluble form of B1), and methylcobalamin (the active form of B12).
This is particularly important during pregnancy when nutrient demands increase.
Note on percentages: The high % Daily Values reflect that B-vitamins are water-soluble — your body uses what it needs and excretes the rest. These doses are well within established safety limits and are common in clinical-grade prenatal formulations.
Magnesium supports muscle function, nervous system regulation, blood sugar balance, and sleep quality. Mothersense uses dimagnesium malate — magnesium bound to malic acid — for excellent absorption and gentle digestive tolerance.
Many prenatals use cheaper forms like magnesium oxide, which absorb poorly and often cause digestive discomfort. Malate forms are well-tolerated even on an empty stomach.
Calcium supports bone development for both baby and mother, plus muscle function and nerve signaling. Mothersense uses dicalcium malate, which absorbs efficiently with or without food — unlike calcium carbonate, which requires stomach acid for absorption and is poorly absorbed in many adults.
Zinc is essential for immune function, cell division, and fetal growth. Mothersense uses zinc bisglycinate chelate, a form known for excellent absorption and tolerability — even on an empty stomach, where zinc oxide and zinc sulfate often cause nausea.
Iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production, which regulates fetal brain development and maternal metabolism. The American Thyroid Association recommends supplemental iodine during pregnancy and breastfeeding because dietary intake alone often falls short.
Selenium supports thyroid function and acts as a powerful antioxidant. Mothersense uses selenium glycinate — selenium bound to the amino acid glycine — for high bioavailability and gentle absorption.
Most prenatals stop at the major minerals and skip the trace minerals that play essential roles in enzyme function, hormone production, and metabolism. Mothersense includes a comprehensive blend in chelated and glycinate forms for optimal absorption.
Iron is essential during pregnancy — but Mothersense leaves it out of the formula intentionally, for three reasons:
1. Iron needs vary widely. Some women need significant supplementation; others get enough from diet alone. Adding a default dose can over-supplement those who don't need it.
2. Iron interferes with other nutrients. Supplemental iron can reduce absorption of calcium, zinc, and magnesium when taken together — exactly the minerals we want your body to use.
3. Iron causes digestive discomfort. Many women experience constipation, nausea, and stomach upset from iron supplementation, especially during early pregnancy.
We believe your healthcare provider is best positioned to recommend whether — and how much — iron is right for you, based on your individual labs and pregnancy stage. Read more about our reasoning.
